Remove EXIF Data and GPS Location from Photos

Before sharing a photo, inspect the information attached to it. EXIF can contain camera details, capture dates and location tags. These are separate from anything visible in the photograph, such as a street sign or a face.

Check what your photo actually contains

Open a JPEG, PNG or WebP in Remove AI Detection From Image and expand an EXIF block. The inspector displays supported camera, software, date and GPS fields when present. GPS values may appear as raw tags and rational numbers rather than a formatted address.

Not every photo has EXIF or GPS. Exporting or editing may change the metadata, and some devices never record location. “No supported metadata found” means the tool did not find a structure it recognizes, not that the image contains no identifying information.

How to remove EXIF data without recompressing

Remove AI Detection From Image removes selected metadata blocks without decoding and re-encoding the image payload. The downloaded copy keeps the original image format.

  1. Choose one image under 25 MB.
  2. Expand EXIF and review the fields before removing anything.
  3. Select the EXIF block and clean the image. Other selected blocks will also be processed; deselect them if you want to retain them.
  4. Check the before-and-after block list and download the new copy.

Why can an EXIF block remain after cleaning?

Some photos rely on an orientation tag to display upright. When necessary, this tool replaces the selected EXIF block with a minimal block containing only that tag. A count of one block before and one after does not mean nothing changed: inspect the remaining values and block size.

Selection applies to whole blocks. You cannot currently remove GPS alone while preserving every other EXIF field. Color profiles are retained separately to avoid an unnecessary change in color rendering.

Location privacy goes beyond EXIF

Location or author information can also appear in XMP, text fields, the original filename or the picture itself. Review other supported blocks if your goal is privacy. The downloaded copy gets a neutral filename, but visual clues in the image are unchanged.

Cleaning a local copy does not remove earlier uploads, messages or copies held elsewhere. Reopen the download to verify its supported metadata before sharing it.
